Apple growing has been a tradition at the Torgglerhof for 45 years. But for about seven years now there has been a lot of new things. Martin the young crazy apple farmer and “alchemist” was fed up with producing marketable “apple beauties” on his farm. He wanted to make more from apples… That’s how the idea came about to create a cider from the best South Tyrolean apples. A drink that conveys good humour and fun. A few years went by, full of passion and experiments, until the drink was perfect.
Now it was a matter of finding the right name for the new “trendsetter”. Since cider is not yet so well known in South Tyrol, Martin felt like a lone wolf, so to speak, and so the name Außenseiter (“underdog”) came to his mind. And because a true South Tyrolean has a certain love of his homeland, the Tyrolean rebel and freedom fighter Andreas Hofer (nicknamed “Ander”) became the mascot. He too fought as an outsider against the great powers of Napoleon and so the name was perfect: “ANDERDOG”.
The “Anderdog” also went straight into his first big battle and won first prize at the “Ciderworld19” in Frankfurt. (Gold medal and “Best of Category”).
But that’s not all, he still wants more. The victory for “you cider lovers” is now in his sights.
