Grandfather Andreas Eitungjerde planted the orchard in Balestrand in 1922. When his grandson Åge took over the farm in the mid-1990s, he looked for new ways to make use of the fruit. He resigned from his post as a university lecturer to set up Balholm and Ciderhuset.
Balholm began production with a pioneering product: unfiltered fruit juice.
Since then, we have been working with fruit cultivation and the production of fruit drinks. Today, Balholm has seven employees and produces around 700,000 litres of drink per year. We sell our alcoholic products under the Ciderhuset brand.
Our aim is for organic fruit juice from Sogn to be available in grocery shops across the country. However, organic production is currently too small for this. We are therefore working to increase organic fruit production in the region.
