Barry Masterson

Pommelier, cidermaker & co-editor of Cider Review

Originally from Ireland, Barry began making cider in 2012 after moving to rural southern Germany, later founding the artisanal Kertelreiter cidery in 2019. Selling cider helps fund conservation projects to plant new meadow orchards dedicated to rare and endangered perry pear varieties from across Europe.

With a deep interest in the historical culture and traditions surrounding perry in Central Europe, Barry has written many articles on this topic, and has published in the journal of the Pomologen Verein, Malus Zine, and Cider Review, of which he is co-editor.

Barry is an ACA Certified Pommelier, a member of the Pomologen Verein and of Hochstamm Deutschland.

“I am delighted to be on the jury at Cider World because by bringing together the widest range of makers and ciders to one place, it is one of the most important cider events in Europe.”
