My name is Josef Grunenberg, I am the owner and managing director of Apfelweinkontor in Frankfurt Sachsenhausen. The Apfelweinkontor, which I run together with Dayanna Moya, is a cider shop specializing in the manufacture of cider. In total, we offer around 60 varieties of cider from different producers. I have been professionally involved with cider since 2014 and have developed a growing passion over the years, particularly for the history, production processes and especially for marketing. I see great potential in the manufacture of single-varietal ciders, cuvées, sparkling wines and semi-sparkling wines and am delighted to be able to play my part in helping cider to become better known and more popular both nationally and internationally. Every day, we inform our visitors and customers in Frankfurt’s oldest half-timbered house about Hessisch-Stöffche and, especially at our cider seminars/tastings, we delve deeper into the world of cider together with our guests. In total, we have had almost 13,000 visitors to our cider tastings since 2019 alone, which shows just how much interest there is in cider.
Under the slogan “Wine from apples”, we produce between 5 – 6 of our own varieties of cider every year and refine our products with self-designed labels, each of which tells its own story about our experiences, our journey with cider and Frankfurt. We have already received several national and international awards for our wine made from apples. We would have loved to participate in the Cider World Award again this year, but I have decided to expand my expertise as a taster and marketer of cider and see participation as a jury member for this year’s Cider World as a great opportunity. Having already been part of the international expert jury in San Sebastian in 2023, I am particularly pleased to be back in my hometown of Frankfurt and am excited to see what has been conjured up internationally this year and am keeping my fingers crossed for all producers.
